Adrian232 It's free, and it runs the Facebook Messenger webpage in an app container that handles notifications, so this app functions just fine for that purpose. There are a few odd flaws, however. Lots of popups when opening and closing the app, which are annoying and can prevent my laptop from shutting down smoothly. It can't do video chat, likely due to it using the native WebKit framework since Facebook complains the feature isn't supported by Safari.
The 'Dark' theme just changes most backgrounds to a darker color and nothing else, which makes it look very strange and unnatural since the rest of the theme wasn't designed for dark backgrounds. And for some reason, this app requires the dedicated GPU, which drains the battery dramatically on my MacBook Pro. This last problem is what forced me to have to find alternatives. One good thing is that, unlike some paid apps, the left column can be resized to your liking. I'd say this app is perfectly good for anyone who needs a free standalone Facebook Messenger app, but most of the above issues could easily be dealbreakers as they were for me.
